A retired army man named Mohammad Farid (55) was killed in a road accident on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at Ramu in Cox’s Bazar.
The accident took place in the area adjacent to Cha Bagan CNG filling station of Joarianala Union of Ramu Upazila around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
The deceased Mohammad Farid is a resident of Ilishiapara area of Ward No. 6 of Joarianala Union and is the son of the deceased Mohammad Kalu. He was known as ‘Army Farid’ in the area. He retired from the Bangladesh Army three years ago.
According to locals, Farid was seriously injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and an unknown vehicle. Later, the locals rescued him and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
According to family sources, he met the accident on his way home after withdrawing money from an ATM booth in Ramu station area as he needed money for a family function.
Ramu Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nashir Uddin said, ‘Upon receiving the news, the highway police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue and the accident motorcycle was taken into custody. However, the identity of the vehicle involved in the accident has not yet been identified.
