A section of mobile traders have formed a human chain protesting the introduction of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system and demanding the release of arrested traders and withdrawal of cases.
They formed a human chain in front of the Bashundhara City shopping complex in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday.
Earlier last Sunday, mobile phone traders blocked Karwan Bazar intersection in Dhaka during the nationwide shutdown program to protest against the launch of NEIR. They started the agitation as per the earlier announcement on several demands, including the demand for the release of the traders arrested and detained in connection with the attack on BTRC.

At that time, the police used water cannons, sound grenades and batons to remove them. Some people were also arrested from the spot. At one point, after being chased by the police, the agitators entered the nearby Bashundhara City shopping mall. After that, traffic started on the road.
Earlier, mobile phone traders attacked and vandalized BTRC office in Agargaon, Dhaka, in protest against the launch of NEIR on January 1. Some people were arrested in the case of vandalism in BTRC building.
Since then, the mobile traders have been carrying out various programs demanding suspension of the NEIR process, attacks on traders and withdrawal of cases.
