No ultimatum from ICC on playing in India: BCB

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not given any such ultimatum to India to play the T20 World Cup. BCB says that some media recently misrepresented their talks with ICC.

In a press release on Wednesday, the BCB said the ICC has responded to their concerns about the security of the Bangladesh team in India. Earlier BCB had requested Bangladesh matches to be shifted from India to other countries citing security risks.

According to BCB, ICC has assured them in their letter that they are determined to ensure Bangladesh’s participation in the tournament. They want to work together with BCB to solve security problems. The ICC also said Bangladesh’s views will be taken into consideration in the main security plan for the World Cup.

It was claimed in some media that the ICC had warned Bangladesh that points would be deducted if they did not travel to India. BCB dismissed the news as completely baseless. According to the notification, this claim is completely false. This has nothing to do with the message coming from the ICC.

A BCB director said the ICC has sought specific reasons for security concerns from them. BCB will send a detailed reply on Wednesday itself. The BCB has made it clear that an acceptable solution is being sought through negotiations, but the safety of the cricketers comes first.

Incidentally, on January 4, BCB wrote to the ICC and requested Bangladesh to host the match somewhere else instead of India. Earlier, the cricketing relationship between the two countries started strained due to the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL on the orders of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI). In protest, BCB announced not to send the team to India for the World Cup. Also IPL broadcast is banned in Bangladesh.
